How to Play It

  1. Send It to Both Sides

The noise is mono. Play it on both sides of the system, with any EQ or effects on its channel bypassed.

  2. Raise the Level Slowly

Start low, then bring the system up until your meter reads the level the app asks for. Let it settle before you tap Calibrate.

  3. Protect Your Hearing

The loudest levels go up to 100 dBA. Wear hearing protection for them, and turn the system down between captures.

About the File

Five minutes of mono pink noise, 48 kHz, 16-bit WAV, at -20 dBFS, with peaks near -5.5 dBFS. It covers 20 Hz to 20 kHz with equal energy in every octave, which is what makes noise pink, and it’s the same file every time we make it.

It fades in and out over 1 second so it never starts with a click. If a capture lands on the loop point, the app may ask you to retake that level.
